Altermove is making a mobile bike workshop available to the people of Lille

30 May 2013

Altermove and Lille Sud Insertion are giving their commitment to sustainable mobility in the centre of Lille by offering a mobile bike workshop from 1 June to 31 October 2013. To encourage the use of bikes in towns, the city of Lille and Altermove, assisted by LSI (Lille Sud Insertion), are organising a mobile workshop that offers to tune, diagnose problems and carry out small repairs to the bikes of passers-by, all completely free of charge.

For 5 months, this initiative aims to make the people in Lille aware of eco-mobility and how cycling can be a safe and pleasant way to travel in an urban context.

Jonathan, trained by LSI and Altermove, will operate this local service, which is being financed by the city of Lille within the framework of his professional retraining. Jonathan and the mobile bike workshop, whose materials will be supplied by Altermove, will walk the streets of Lille from 1 June to 31 October 2013, to meet the increasing number of city people who are choosing bikes (or the V’lille) as their occasional or daily mode of transport.

This local service promoting the use of bikes will operate throughout the period at the rate of 4 half-days per week, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm:

  • Wednesdays at Lille Citadel and the surrounding area
  • Thursdays at the UniversitéCatholique de Lille
  • Fridays in the area around the Lille Flandres and Europe train stations
  • Saturdays right in the city centre (Centre, Opéra and Grand Place)
